Amicable divorce is possible in Rhode Island, study reports

Divorce and happiness may seem like incompatible terms to some of our readers. While it's true that most people going through a divorce will experience negative emotions at some point in the process, some Rhode Island couples are able to work through their issues in a relatively satisfactory manner.

In fact, one new study examined which states saw the "happiest" divorces. The study examined spouses in all 50 states who reported via the Internet that they had reached an agreement in their divorce. The results showed that Rhode Island saw the third most amicable divorces in the nation. Only respondents from Oklahoma and Vermont reported more amicable divorces.

Although it hasn't been reported why Rhode Island saw so many amicable divorces, some Rhode Island couples find that mediation can be helpful in achieving a mutually agreeable divorce settlement. Mediation utilizes the assistance of a professional who doesn't advocate for one side or the other, but instead serves as a facilitator in the negotiation process so that couples can reach a resolution.

Although the essence of cooperation may seem to be at odds with the divorce process, it is a possibility for some. While reaching a satisfactory outcome to a divorce case may involve some give and take, through divorce mediation some couples are able to work through their differences when it comes to divorce legal issues such as child custody, child support, property division and spousal support. Couples who are interested in the mediation process should not hesitate to seek answers to their questions.
