Rhode Island residents may have more in common with an all-star basketball player than they ever realized. Steve Nash, point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers is struggling with child support issues. Kent County residents may be facing similar challenges with child support. Child support issues do not discriminate and affects everyone, whether they are rich or poor, famous or not.
Steve Nash does not want to pay child support to his ex-wife because he worries about his kid's becoming too spoiled. Nash noted in his defense that his ex-wife is an excessive spender and the additional child support money would not be managed in a healthy manner for the benefit of his children. Nash's ex-wife made millions after the couple's divorce in 2010. In addition to settlement, Nash is already paying a portion of his children's needs. An Arizona judge ruled in favor of Nash, but his ex-wife is appealing the ruling.
Child support issues are challenging. States determine child support based on the number of kids the individual has to care for and their income. However, circumstances change over time. The child's cost of living and everyday expenses will change as they get older. On the other side of the coin, an individual may lose their job or be promoted. It is important that when it comes to an individual's children, both parents are proactive.
Rhode Island residents who may be facing issues with child support, whether they are the custodial or non-custodial parent should seek answers to any challenges they are facing. There are experienced legal professionals who can assist individuals and help meet the unique needs of each child support case.
