When it comes to issues dealing with our children, it does not matter whether one is wealthy and famous or barely scraping by, the issues are never easy. A former NBA star is learning how difficult child custody issues can be. The ex-wife of Allen Iverson has accused the former basketball super star of kidnapping his own children.
Rhode Island residents may remember him for his on court grit and determination, but now the ex-NBA star is facing issues in another court. As part of their child custody arrangement, Tawanna Iverson was granted sole legal and primary custody of the former couple's children. The five children range in age from three years of age to 16.
Ms. Iverson has accused Mr. Iverson of kidnapping the kids and not returning them to the agreed upon drop off location. Mr. Iverson submitted court documents stating that he had requested to take the children to North Carolina for a vacation. Currently, Mr. Iverson is alleged to be holding the children in a hotel in Georgia.
The kidnapping issue will be resolved in family court, along with back child support issues. At the couple's last child custody hearing, Mr. Iverson was accused of hindering the spiritual and emotional growth of his children. Along with the kidnapping accusation, he owes $40,000 in outstanding child support to his former wife.
Child custody issues can be very complex when so many emotions are involved. It is important that individuals facing child custody issues have the knowledge and a firm understanding of the way family court judges and courts work. Any decisions made by a judge, will always be made with the best interests of the child in place.
